Rodney the Zombie. Issue #2. 'Caretaker for a Day!'

Previously in Rodney the Zombie, Issue #1 Hitting the Help Wanteds: Rodney happens to be a zombie...and an actor, but has been fired from a movie because he refuses to be a typical zombie; he won't be typecast into a normal role for a zombie or act like every other zombie in the film industry. Upon leaving the studio he waits for the bus, and just his luck, it begins to rain. When he arrives home he proceeds to get drunk in front of the television and fall asleep. He is suddenly woken up by the delivery of the morning newspaper, and decides its time to "hit the help wanteds."

Issue #2 is a continuation of the previous story that Rodney is looking for a job, but there is also an addition to the story to make it more interesting. This is where the real story begins for Rodney. Come back each week and see the story unfold.

Rodney the Zombie. Issue #1. 'Hitting the Help Wanteds.'

Rodney #1 is the introduction for the story. Its shorter than the rest of the issues, but that is why I am not saying much about the story. Although, I will tell you that I made this comic before I was a student in the Comics 101 class, so the drawing in this issue and the next are a bit off.

Its a fun and kooky comic that doesn't follow any of the normal knowledge of zombies. I thought of a character and thought of a situation and let the ideas flow and let the story play out. I really enjoy what has happened and hope you enjoy what will be presented in the future.

Zombie Apocalypse Disaster Kit - Be Prepared!

Heed my words: The Zombie Apocalypse will happen and you'll need to be prepared for when it does (or when any other disaster occurs)!

I was raised in a home with two parents that were always prepared for anything. My mom always made sure that we had enough water, food and canned goods stocked in case something happened, and my father had on hand plenty of survival gear. I was raised to always be prepared. Being from Joplin, Missouri and having moved to Atlanta, Georgia in March, I narrowly missed the disaster that struck in May. The tornado only hammered the fact in my head that you never know what will happen and when, so always be prepared...even for the Zombie Apocalypse!

The list below is pulled from ready.gov, but there is a more extended list on the American Red Cross website, which has a link at the bottom of this post if you'd like more information and more supplies to consider.

At a minimum, have the basic supplies listed below. Keep supplies in an easy to carry emergency preparedness kit that you can use at home or take with you in case you must evacuate.
  • Water: one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation
  • Food: at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food
  • Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert and extra batteries for both
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • First aid kit
  • Whistle to signal for help
  • Dust mask, to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place
  • Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation
  • Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities; small tool kit
  • Can opener for food (if kit contains canned food)
  • Local maps and an atlas
  • Cell phone with chargers, inverter or solar charger

Additional Items to Consider Adding to an Emergency Supply Kit:

  • Prescription medications and glasses
  • Infant formula and diapers
  • Pet food and extra water for your pet
  • Cash or traveler's checks and change
  • Important family documents such as copies of insurance policies, identification and bank account records in a waterproof, portable container.
  • Emergency reference material such as a first aid book
  • Sleeping bag or warm blanket for each person. Consider additional bedding if you live in a cold-weather climate.
  • Complete change of clothing including a long sleeved shirt, long pants and sturdy shoes. Consider additional clothing if you live in a cold-weather climate.
  • Household chlorine bleach and medicine dropper – When diluted nine parts water to one part bleach, bleach can be used as a disinfectant. Or in an emergency, you can use it to treat water by using 16 drops of regular household liquid bleach per gallon of water. Do not use scented, color safe or bleaches with added cleaners.
  • Fire Extinguisher
  • Matches in a waterproof container
  • Feminine supplies and personal hygiene items
  • Mess kits, paper cups, plates and plastic utensils, paper towels
  • Paper and pencil
  • Books, games, puzzles or other activities

 Be safe, and enjoy life!

Rodney the Zombie. Issue #2. Set #6. (Final)

Wow! It's been over two months since I have blogged, hmmmm, I need to be a lot better at this if I want to continue. I've been taking a break but I've also been a little burnt out on comic projects due to the fact that I rushed to get YMOL #1 finished and ready to be published in a short window of time. I was a little worn out, to say the least.

One day I realized that I stopped blogging (yet again) in the middle of Rodney the Zombie. I haven't worked on Rodney in a while and want to move on with the new issue so in order to avoid any other snafus with me posting and just to be done with this I am publishing the rest of the story in one post so that it is finished.

There will be one more post about Rodney the Zombie in which I publish the cover designs for issue #2 and have a special announcement, so stay tuned!

I do have one announcement though, you can now subscribe to Dementia Comics and receive notifications via e-mail whenever I have a new post. It's a faster, easier, and more efficient way to find out when there is something new on the blog. You can find this new feature on the right hand side of the screen.

I hope that you continue to enjoy!

Previous Installments:
Set #1: Sunday, March 20, 2011.
Set #2: Tuesday, March 29, 2011.
Set #3: Wednesday, April 13, 2011.
Set #4: Sunday, May 22, 2011.
Set #5: Wednesday, June 29, 2011.

If you have forgotten what has happened previously in the story (sorry, my fault) Rodney was woken up by his daily newspaper hitting the door, and while eating breakfast he looks at the 'Help Wanted' advertisements bypassing the headlines of 'Murder' and 'Missing'. His interest is peaked by a Veterinary Clinic advert. and heads out to apply.

The story takes a dark twist when a mysterious bush begins to follow Rodney, and when he gets on the bus there is another mysterious figure hiding behind a newspaper watching him intently. Rodney arrives at the Animal Hospital, but finds out that he won't get the job advertised.

Just when Rodney gives up hope he finds out that there is another job that he is qualified for, unfortunately it's a kennel cleaner but he needs a job so of course he accepted it. He begins his tasks, and he picks a seemingly nice Bulldog to play with. Now on with Rodney the Zombie...

The last page is my absolute favorite!!! Every time I read it I start laughing.

With this issue I wanted to experiment with many things and that's why there is a noticeable change in this last half of the story. I can definitely say that with issue #3 every thing is improved; from the art to the plot of the story Rodney the Zombie #3 is greatly better than these first two issues.

Enjoy, and have a great day!!!

Rodney the Zombie. Issue #2. Set #5.

Hello everyone! Here we are with another long awaited installment of Rodney the Zombie, Issue #2 (Caretaker for a Day).

Sorry for another long delay; this has been an extremely crazy month. Along with the tornado that destroyed my hometown, my father also passed away (due to medical problems that weren't associated with the tornado). I spent two weeks back home for the funeral and helping my mom get some things in order. Since everything that happened was back in Missouri I took a leave of absence from work to go home. That threw our finances out the window, and for the past month and still now we are trying to catch everything up. Needless to say I haven't had much time to blog, or even work on any art.

Things are getting back to normal though, and hopefully I can get back into the swing of creating comics and blogs!
